Institute Focus Areas and Program Interests

The Leadership Institute Advisory Committee has selected Focus Areas for the Institute to support attendees in finding the workshops that meet their needs.  The committee identified Specific Strategies for service-learning success.  Each workshop offered at the Institute will address at least one Focus Area and any workshop that addresses the one or more Specific Strategy will also be indicated to provide intentional targeted learning for all participants.

Sustaining Service-Learning – Utilize Partners, Funding and Policy

The Leadership Institute begins Monday, February 7, 2011 at 9 a.m. when registration opens.  The Institute ends Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.

 Robert MacPhee - Keynote

Robert MacPhee is the Founder and President of Heart Set, Inc., a company dedicated to helping people live the life of their dreams. He has worked closely with Jack Canfield for the past 10 years. He is responsible for the staffing and logistics of all of Jack’s live training events and co-facilitates many of those events. Robert is a Founding Member of the Transformational Leadership Council, a group Jack Canfield established in 2005 that is made up of some of the most brilliant minds in the personal and professional development industry. Robert is the author of "Manifesting for Non-Gurus". Robert’s "Manifesting for Non-Gurus" work also includes teleseminars, live events and individual and group coaching. Robert practices what he preaches not only in his business but as a marathon runner, a loving husband and a proud father of three amazing children.

Cathryn Berger Kaye, M.A., is President of CBK Associates and ABCD Books, offering professional development, conference keynotes, and exceptional service-learning resources. Her themes includes service-learning, high level literacy skills, social and emotional development, engaging teaching methods, and literature connections. Cathryn has developed Strategies for Success: A Learning Curriculum that Serves for student achievement and is the author of The Complete Guide to Service Learning (Revised & Updated Second Edition) and Going Blue: A Teen Guide to Saving our Oceans, Lakes, Rivers, & Wetlands written with Philippe Cousteau and EarthEcho International. Other Conference Highlights

World Cafe
Tuesday, February 8th from 11:15am to 12:15pm, Cathryn Berger Kaye will host a World Cafe discussion to generate ideas and stimulate discussions relating to youth’s role in service-learning sustainability.

Youth Leadership Day
Tuesday, February 8th is dedicated to youth leadership in service-learning. This day begins with youth leaders leading the morning session and includes youth co-led worshops, a tour of the school led by students, World Cafe focused on youth, showcasing of youth’s work, and ends with youth entertainment.

School Tour
A highlight of Youth Leadership Day is a tour of Explorer Elementary, High Tech Middle and High Tech High schools. The tour begins with a panel of students sharing their project experience. Pre-registration at the Institute Registration table is required.
