Become a Workshop Presenter


The California Service-Learning Leadership Institute is now accepting workshop applications for the 2011 conference, Learn. Serve. Sustain. We invite you to submit an application by December 13, 2010, detailing your proposed workshop, which demonstrates high-quality service-learning practices or skill building practices.  All workshops must connect to the theme: Learn. Serve. Sustain. and to the Focus Areas and/or the Program Interests. 

Expectations of Presenters

It is our expectation that workshop presenters will:
  • Your workshop connects to at least one of the Focus Area.
  • Ideally you connect your workshop to one or more Program Interest.
  • Complete your workshop in 55 minutes to allow for evaluations and reflection in your hour time slot.
  • Your workshop allows 5 minutes for evaluation and journaling and reflecting on your workshop and how the participants will utilize your material to improve and sustain their work.
  • Bring enough materials for 30-40 participants.
  • Provide own laptop.
  • Share presented electronic materials with the Institute team to upload on www.sdservicelearning.org
Presenters are strongly encouraged to participate throughout the duration of the conference, by completing the registration materials and paying the discounted presenter registration fee.

Benefits of Participating as a Workshop Presenter

As a workshop presenter, your name, organization and workshop details will also be included in the conference program, distributed to all attendees at the conference. This information will also be added to the conference website, two weeks prior to the event start date. 

Youth Leaders as Workshop Presenters

Special request! Calling all youth leaders to present or co-present.  On Tuesday February 8, 2011, the Institue will focus on Youth Leading in Service-Learning.  If you are a K-12 student, we want you to present.  Please apply to share strategies for building service-learning capacity in and out of a classroom to create sustainable service-learning.  If you would like to be on our Youth Institute Planning Committee, please email sleducators@excelyouthzone.org or call 619-599-8205 ext. 2.

Workshop Audio/Visual Equipment

Each workshop room has the capability to be equipped with a screen, LCD projector, sound capability for your laptop and a flipchart with markers, if needed for your workshop. Presenters are asked to supply their own computer.  We do ask that when submitting your workshop application, you make note of what items you will need to run your workshop successfully.   

Registration as a Participant

All workshop presenters are guaranteed the early-bird registration rate, regardless of the date registered. 

How to Apply

All applications are due December 13, 2010.  Simply apply on-line by clicking HERE.

The Leadership Institute Advisory Committee will review all applications at the end of December 2010. All presenters who apply will be notified in early January 2011 to allow adequate time to prepare.
