CalServe Initiative-California Department of Education
Through funding provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Learn and Serve America (a federal agency) to the California Department of Education, CalServe Initiative grants are provided to local educational agencies across the state of California. These grants support the design, implementation, and support for the instructional method known as “service-learning.”
In 2009-10 over 126,000 youth were provided with opportunities to learn, serve, and achieve in the California.
In a 2009-10 statewide study, teachers reported that 88 percent of their students achieved the academic content standards being delivered through service-learning.
Youth provided more than 1.3 million hours of service to their communities.

NTC Promenade
